Jacob Sutton-
Jacob Sutton is a fashion photographer who uses the idea of steam to create a surprising effect on women models. His photographs are very dark and mysterious, especially on the subjects face and hair. The poses that the subjects do are relaxed and postured which indicates a calm feeling of the photographs. Jacob Sutton has worked with many celebrities within his fashion career, but his steam photographs are his most popular. In my opinion, I prefer Jacob Sutton's work to David Ryle's as myself and other viewers can indicate more on what the photographer is trying to show and how he created the photograph.
The steam in Sutton's photography is mainly around the subject's face which makes the face clear to see. The colours within the photographs are very dim, including black and white and slightly grey. This could indicate that Sutton is trying to say that everyone is equally as good as everyone else and how people shouldn't treat people differently. The depth of field of the photograph is a short depth of field as the main focus of the photograph is the women model, also, the background is dimmed with steam. The lighting is darkened, the main lighting is on the face of the subject but I think that is lightened with the black and white effect of the photograph. The most focused part of the photograph is the women's face and hair which could indicate that that is the main focus of a women and how our modern society should look at the face and not the body of a woman.
Roy Lichtenstein-
Roy Lichtenstein is a famous pop artist from the 1960's, along with Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns. His artwork was comic based which was a new art movement earlier on in the 60's, however, he was a new face for this movement. His work includes much detail such as the block colours and the dots on the subjects faces within the artwork. I love his work for many reasons including the fact that each art piece tells a different story such as heartbreak and tragedy.
Lichtenstein artwork is mainly filled with block colours including black and yellow. The colours of the artwork are bright which links with the overall pop art movement. The main focus is the women's face as you are trying to think of her facial expression and what it creates, however, the background is as equally focused upon as it appears at the top of the subject's head. However, the artwork has a short depth of field as the woman is the main focus of the work and she is in the centre of the work. The artwork is well focused and has very bright lighting, which links with the brightness of the colours. Lichtenstein work symbolises heartbreak and tragedy and how it happens to many people on a day to day life. I like his artwork as is simple yet appealing to the eye. It has abstract colours which attaches the viewers eyes and is carefully presented.
MY VERSION-
To create my own version of Lichtenstein's work, I took a range of photographs of Ryan in different poses to create a Lichtenstein effect. I then photoshopped the photograph to make it look like a comic strip or a cartoon which makes the colours look duller and more pixilated. I then printed the photograph out and I used highlighters and permanent markers to make the photograph look more like Lichtenstein's work such as the black outlines and the though bubbles.
