Martin Coleman expresses a really important factor on 'The Human Condition' by following up his photography on mental health. He finds normal people and writes words on boards which expresses something in their life or his. The photographer shows mental health issues such as 'depression' and 'eating disorders' which a lot of people suffer from throughout their lives. The photographs are in black and white which could also symbolise a unique perspective on selective photographs, which this topic is mental health.
The writing that is used on the boards is plain writing which is bolded by the black and white effect. The background in the photographs is the same in most of his photographs which could mean that he took them all the same time or that he wants to express a message about that exact place.
This photograph expresses the message of an 'eating disorder' or 'mental disorder' which links with 'The Human Condition' because many humans suffer from mental health. The trees in the background aren't focused on as much as the person and the board she is holding. Most of the background isn't focused which could be shown as the least important factor of the photograph. This photographer could link with David Ryle as a lot of David Ryle's photographs have blurred backgrounds and focused on the person, the main factor. He also links with David Ryle as they use basic effects and has very easy meaning for the viewers to understand. I like this photographer because he uses photography for a high benefit such as promoting mental health. Also, he uses important words to express how people feel or what they think when going through this. I like the black and white in the photograph because it makes the person in the photograph and the board they are holding more bolder and clearer.
Changing the photographs to black and white-
I am going to change the photographs into black and white so they link with Martin Coleman's work. In my opinion, I think Martin Coleman uses a black and white effect because then all the people in his photographs are equal which links with 'The Human Condition'. The sheets of paper with the words on mean something in people's lives such as 'disorder' could display and eating disorder or mental disorder. However, the word 'question' could display many things and makes the viewers react with his photographs in a different way. All of the words display a different story behind them which is a big part of 'The Human Condition'.
