Rankin
Rankin is a very popular photography, especially with the public eye. He has a popular project called 'destroy' where teamed up with a charity to raise awareness on their charity for children. What he did was take photographs of celebrities to purposely destroy them, which involved sewing them back together or ripping the photograph apart. His photography is unusual in some projects such as this one, however, he takes photographs for fashion and advertising such as makeup products.
The effect of the destroying of the photographs is how it links with Rankin's style of photography as he destroys his photographs and puts them back together. He commonly uses thread to tie them together or uses markers to destroy them. He also rips them up and sticks them together, such as one of his photographs above. The colours are used link with his work as they are basic and straightforward, however, I used my Gloria Marigo photographs to destroy to change the idea of the colours to a vintage effect. The idea of linking these two photographers is the link between a modern side of photography and a vintage side of photography such as Marigo's. The depth of field of Marigo's work is a long depth of field, however, Rankin's is focused on a short depth of field which contrasts the two photographers. The texture of Rankin's work displays a modern society towards it as it displays 'Destroy' which is a good description on what our society is based around. I think Rankin's work contrasts with Marigo's as they have opposite effects too them such as modern society and a vintage daydream.

In the top photograph, Rankin has a black and white effect which makes the photograph look dark and unlighted at the left. There is an obvious shadow on the left of the subjects face which adds an effect of gloominess to the photograph. However, Rankin adds colour by the use of red pen on the top of the subjects head. The lighting is brighter at the right hand side of the face with no shadows created. The depth of field of the photograph is short as the main focus is onto the subject and the added drawings onto the photograph. This photograph creates a subject to modern society that you never know what happens in peoples life's and how you never know how people feel. I think this because Rankin shows a destroy effect which could mean how the person's life was destroyed by an event of some sort yet they got back together, which highlights the idea of the sewing or the sticking of the photograph together again. I like Rankin's project 'Destroy' as there is many ways to explore his photographs and what each one could represent.

Sylvia Ji-
Sylvia Ji is a unique artist who creates spiritual artwork of women to explore themes of beauty and lust. Her artwork links within each other such as the use of colours and detail on the subjects face. Her work displays an act of femininity and how women can be displayed however and whatever they want, as long as they are comfortable within themselves. I love her artwork because it illustrates a deepened meaning to young women in our modern day society on their appearance.
This photograph links with Sylvia Ji's work by the patterns that are used in both photographs. The lighting of the subject looks darker then the patterned layer which links with Ji's work as the subject in her photograph is always made up of a dark lighting. The depth of field of the photograph is short which makes the viewers focus on the subject of the photograph and not the background. The photograph is focused which implies that the main focus is the subject. The background is plain which makes the subject more centred and it also makes the viewers see the effect of the pattern which links with Ji's work. The lighting in the background makes the pattern more outstanding towards the colour of white. I also used a photo shoot with a woman because then it explores the spiritual artwork of a women which explores themes of lust.
